Ven. Tenzin Deshek was born in Tibet near Mt. Kailash. At the age of ten he escaped with his family across the Himalayas and became a refugee in India. Four years later, he entered Namgyal Monastery where, following fifteen years of study, he received the degree of Master of Sutra and Tantra.

Lama Deshek has extensive experience in teaching Buddhist philosophy and in guiding the practice of his students, having taught at Namgyal Monastery as well as in Mongolia, Japan, and the U.S.

Now Lama Deshek serves as Spiritual Director and Resident Teacher of Losel Maitri Tibetan Buddhist Center in Birmingham Alabama, since August, 2002.
