Located on
ly about 1 hour by auto rickshaw from Bodhagya(A), the Mahakala Caves(B) are an excellent place for a day trip, ore even combined with Vultures Peak (in Rajgir) and Nalanda. for a map of the 3 places click here.
During the winter season (nov-feb) the path up to the mahakala caves will be line with lots of beggars, so before heading out there you may wish to get a bag of change to give 1 rupee to each one. Bags of change are available from outside the mahabodhi stupa complex, however DO NOT let the beggars there see you buy a bag of coins and always keep it concealed or you won’t make it out alive.
Upon reaching the top the main attraction (apart from the amazing view) is the cave containing a statue of the Buddha during his fasting meditation. There are also a few other smaller shrine rooms around that are worth a look.
