Probably the best place to stay if you are wanting to do your own meditation, the beautiful peaceful surroundings make it one of the best places in Bodhgaya to stay if you are a Buddhist and the food there is excellent. Rooms vary in price and quality a lot.

Pros

  • Peaceful rooms and retreat houses
  • Two inspiring meditation halls
  • Three delicious vegetarian meals per day.
  • Library of books and videos, as well as meditation cushions/boxes, water bowls, prostration boards and other retreat supplies.
  • Laundry service and shop for your daily needs.
  • Bicycle rental for quick and easy visits to the Mahabodhi Temple.

Cons

  • Location is quite far from Mahabodhi Temple.
  • Staying at Root Institute you have to follow some rules, which is ok, but remember: no singing or playing music, no cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs, no sexual activity
